Learning Log 7

I felt that I did pretty well but not perfect during the actual performance. For example, the dancing part, I should have stood closer to my dance partner. For acting part, I should project my voice louder. Overall, I think that there is still room for improvement.
I think that my group’s performance was fantastic. Even though there were some mistakes, but I felt that the overall performance was rather successful. Our months of hard word did paid off. If there is a chance to perform again, I would suggest having a few more full-dressed rehearsals. It is important, as it is a chance for us to practice our sitting and standing postures with the costumes on.
I would recommend the performance for the next year’s Secondary 2 batch. I think that this is a good opportunity for them to work with friends and learn how to work as a team. Not only that, they can also learn to overcome their fear of facing the audiences, building up their courage.
Summing up my learning log 7, I felt that this performance has made me built a thinker friendship with my group members. I do hope that I would get another chance to work with them again next time.

Learning Log 6

I have learnt a lot about literary devices. Like simile, metaphor, personification, symbol, rhyme, rhythm and tone were taught during Secondary 1. As for the others, they are new to me. Some examples of the new literary devices that I have learnt are gustatory, kinesthetic, tactile and many more. These literary devices are not only useful in Literature but also in English, especially when writing compositions. They can make our compositions more interesting and thus, scoring higher marks. For the resource sheets that was given to us, I think that it is very useful to us when comes to revision for exams.

Lastly, I would like to say that I have enjoyed the learning process of the literary devices. I have benefit a lot through this learning.

Learning Log 5

After reading 'The Unseen', I learnt some techniques on how to tackle either unseen poem or prose passage. First of all, when approaching an unseen poem, we have to read the poem at least twice. As we read, we have to take note of our feelings and where our attentions are drawn to. Making shorts and clear notes on the poem is also beneficial to us. There are also some pitfalls to avoid.

As for unseen passage, we have to read at least three times. We have to try to understand the meanings of the difficult words and phrases that we may not understand by studying the way they are used. There are also Do's and Don'ts when answering questions.

Organizing our answers is also a crucial part. There are two techniques which are helpful in helping us to organize our answers. One of which is IBL (Introduction, Body and Conclusion) and the other one is PEEL (Point, Explain Elaborate, Evidence Example and Link). The quickest way to show evidence is to quote. We have to keep our quotes easier and interesting to read. We should also take note that the quotes used should add value to the point and not merely repeat the point. As far as possible, the quotes should be included within the sentences or points made. Do not simply start a sentence with a quote.

I have also read Chapter 20 which in on how to organize and write the essay. By analysing the text in detail is not enough. We must be able to express our ideas coherently and persuasively. We have to jot down our impression of text's meanings, interpret the text, analyse the text in detailed and insight and response. I have also learnt skills in organizing an essay. We have to start our essay with a statement which immediately answer the question and state our standpoint. Whereas for the body, we have to apply the PEEP principle. For conclusion, we can reiterate major claim or argument, summarize key points and provide philosophical insight and summative respond.

Lastly will be the irony. It refers to a contradiction in a situation or a statement. There are two main irony-situational irony and verbal irony.

To sum up my learning log, I would like to comment that, through reading the 'The Unseen', I have really learnt a lot of new things. The information given is useful to me when I am attempting to unseen poem and prose passage.

Learning Log 4

I have learnt how to work together as a group. As most of us were busy coping with school and tuition work, we hardly managed to find time to discuss things together. Therefore, we decided to distribute the work among the three of us. We would just need to prepare things at home and bring them during the day of performance. Sometimes the three of us would have different suggestions to improve the performance. So, we would collate all the suggestions and discuss how we can make improvement.
I personally like Kaiyisah’s performance very much. Her projection of the witch voice and her gestures impressed me a lot. She was courageous enough to face the audiences. Therefore, she performed a wonderful performance. Melvin’s performance was not bad too. Similar to Kaiyisah’s, he was not shy and he performed well.
I think that my group’s performance can be improved. The size of background picture could be made larger and we should also add some sound effects too. Such as the part “In thunder, lightning or in rain”, we can add the sound of thunder and we should also insert the meowing of the cat.

Learning Log 3

During the lesson on Act 1 Scene 1, we were grouped into several groups. I was grouped in the same group as Dorcas and Azrul. We have yet to discuss which witches each of us will be. The reason was that the lesson on Art 1 Scene 2 was quite packed, therefore we only had time for having to know who are our members but not for acting out the scene. We will try to be faster the next lesson so that we would be able to complete acting the whole script.

As for the lesson on Act 1 Scene 2, some of my classmates were called to present the script. They read each of the lines with emotions. I think that they had done a good job.

Lesson on the discussion of comic page grid, we were arranged into group of fours. As a group, we discussed about what to draw in each box such that they are in sequence. My friends gave me quite a lot of ideas, which I think are useful when I am drawing the comic page grid.

I think that the lesson on the discussion of the comic page grid was useful. Through this lesson, I can better understand about Act 1 Scene 2. Group discussions enable us to discuss among our group members, sharing thoughts, which I think can let us understand stories more clearly. Therefore, I request more of group discussions.

Summing up my learning log 3, I want to tell you, Mrs Woo that I really enjoy your lessons as your teaching pace was just right for me!

Learning Log 2

After watching my peers presenting the "Witches", I learnt how to use different tones to represent different characters. I have also learnt that we must have courage and teamwork in order to have the presentation successfully presented. I still haven't had the courage to present in front of the whole class yet.

During the discussion on the superstitious with my peers as a group, I have found out a hand full of new superstitions. Such as, when a black cat walks towards you, it will bring you good luck, but if it walks away from you, it will bring away good luck away from you. When a dog howls for a long time at night, it means that there is someone dying. I found these two superstitions quite scary.

From the lesson on superstitious presentation on 16/02/2011, I got to learn a few more new superstitions because teacher had rearranged all of us into different groups. Therefore, I got to learn a few more superstitions which I think are pretty interesting.

Summing up my Learning Log 2, I think that those superstitions I had just learnt from my peers' research are indeed new to me and I also found them quite interesting!

          I ❤ YOUR LESSON, TEACHER!!! ✌
Literature is a luxury; fiction is a necessity.

Learning Log 1

I have learnt that "CINQUAIN" is a five-line poem and the word "cinquain" is derived from the French word cinq, which means five.

During our group work time, I learnt to respect one another's decisions and I also learnt to be committed in what I do. I think that it is also fun to work with friends and at the same time build our team work skills.

I suggest that teacher you should give more comments on our work in the future so that we can learn from our mistakes.

However, I still like your lessons very muck because I find your lessons interesting and enjoyable. Teacher, please continue to make the lessons even more interesting! Looking forward to your literature lessons.
